        Two Approaches
   
 


This week, we decided to redesign the digital xylophone because we didn't want to abandon the first project, but we wanted to experiment more with the physical interface, hopefully making it more intuitive.

Some of the improvements with the older design will use QPROX-160 sensors, which have 6 channels.

In the newer design, we decided to lay the cylinders horizontally.

Since we thought it was more intuitive to associate "dim-to-brightness" with the scale rather than assigning a color to each note.

Digital Sketch

For this iteration, we will be using QPROX-401 Slider sensors to allow multiple notes on each key, the "Vibrato Effect," and intuitive gesturing. We are still thinking of using pedals to change scales and nodes. The lines of this illustration are similar to frets on a guitar, with the exception that they represent the next octave range.

We will also be designing a circuit board because it will make the sensors more stable, and these sensors are only available in surface mount packages.
