Finite State Machine

James Sears and I built a Finite State Machine that generates patterns. We were inspired by Stephen Wolfram:

Instead of a random pattern, we wanted to simulate an animated double helix.

We were afraid that the spaces in between the LED lights would distract from the pattern, therefore we sanded the 25 individual LED lights to make the matrix compact and the pattern visible.
