Group Members: Chetan Mangat, Theresa Porter, Chris Paretti, Anne Hong I had to do a collaborative presentation on Google’s Dodgeball and its founders, ITP Alums Dennis Crowley and Alex Rainert. I met three other members to pitch ideas. One member wanted to take the class of 135 people out to Washington Square Garden to literally play dodgeball. I objected, believing that it was a weak idea and proposed a collaborative light installation that metaphorically illustrated the principles behind the Dodgeball system. I was met with considerable opposition and skepticism from my group, but confident in my vision, I put together a demonstration, which convinced them to follow my direction. In the end we all agreed on a plan, splitting the 135 people into four groups that were then to attempt to make four light rays meet at one point by bouncing the light from one person to another. Many seemed entranced during the fifteen-minute session, enjoying the opportunity to play and break the rules while illustrating for themselves the dynamic nature of the Dodgeball network.
